What can a chemical peel do for me?

Aren’t chemical peels for middle aged women who have an issue with getting older?

Chemical peels are an affordable way of treating many different skin problems with minimal risk for both women and men.

Are you uncomfortable going out or to work without make-up? Does your acne bother you when you look in the mirror? Does your skin feel like an orange peel when you touch it? A series of chemical peels might be the right choice for you.

Chemical peels work best if done in a series. Most people will see some change with a single peel, but to see best results we recommend a series of three to start.

Chemical peels treat: Acne, fine lines and wrinkles, rosacea, sun damage and skin texture. They can decrease the appearance of mild scars and dark spots associated with aging. There are a multitude of acids used and different reasons to use each one. We often use a blend of two or more acids to achieve a client’s goal.

The biggest benefit of a chemical peel is the removal of dead skin cells which if left untreated, build up, increasing the appearance of wrinkles, and providing an environment where breakouts and clogged pores reign.

LACTIC ACID: Helps to exfoliate dead skin cells and turn over new ones. Deep cleans pores making it easer to do extractions. It helps to even skin tones and to reduce dark spots.

SALICYLIC ACID: Helps to decrease both inflammatory and comedonal acne. Decreases oil production and has a comedolytic { un-clogs pores} affect. It can decrease the amount of blackheads and whiteheads formed.

GLYCOLIC ACID: Also lyses dead skin cells. Can treat acne and acne scarring.

Resourcinol and hydroquinone can also be found in some combination peels, in small percentages. The are helpful in brightening skin, giving it a radiance, that perhaps was previously missing. They also serve to tighten the skin, removing some of the laxity that age has produced.

There are many levels of peels, referred to as, micro, medium and deep peels. A micro peel is a low percentage single acid you might find for home use { not recommended}. A mid level peel is what we do in our office using many of the agents listed above, alone or in combination. A deep peel is performed with some form of sedation, monitoring, etc, and is not performed in our office.

When you have a chemical peel in our office we are giving you the equivalent of a chemical sunburn. The way it feels and heals is very similar. It takes five to seven days for the healing process and when completed, fresh new skin is revealed that looks and feels amazing.

Every peel is customized to the client’s needs and goals. We do education during the peel process so each client knows what to expect and how to maximize their results. Peels can be used to treat problem skin or to keep great skin fresh and healthy. Make an appointment today for your free consultation to determine if a chemical peel is right for you.
